DRINKING BIRD, WINSTON C.W., ELIJAH SHIFER | August 14 | 8PM

Combining intimate jazz improvisation with cinematic melodies and rock-and-roll verve, DRINKING BIRD is a trio that draws from a liberally defined American Songbook to build a sound of its own. Comprising New Yorker Eladio Rojas on the drums, Norway-bred guitarist Jacob Matheus, and Pacific Northwest native Tree Palmedo on trumpet, the members of Drinking Bird have performed with folk singers, pop stars, rock bands, and a host of jazz greats.

The Robber Crabs are a quartet dedicated to combining the influences of early jazz and avant-garde jazz, infused with a surreal, subversive sense of humor. Led by saxophonist Elijah Shiffer, their debut album Unhinged was released in 2018. The Robber Crabs play about once a month at the Red Room at KGB Bar.

Winston C.W. is the moniker of Winston Cook-Wilson—lead singer, keyboardist, and songwriter in the Brooklyn band Office Culture. Distinct from the pop-oriented, groove-based music of Office Culture, Cook-Wilson’s solo work is spare and intimate, channeling singer-songwriters like Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, and Scott Walker. Following his 2017 debut Thirty and his quarantine standards album Without a Sail, his most recent LP Good Guess is his most personal and adventurous work to date, featuring jazz-influenced arrangements assisted by Carmen Rothwell (upright bass) and Ryan Beckley (guitar) from the Brooklyn band Scree.
