An outlier in Jean-Luc Godard’s filmography, Contempt finds the director working on an international scale, with Brigitte Bardot, Michel Piccoli, Jack Palance, Giorgia Moll, and Fritz Lang playing himself. Against the brilliant Mediterranean landscape of Capri, Godard turns a production of The Odyssey into the backdrop for a marriage quietly coming apart.

Closing Before Summer Ends, Contempt finds love and identity shifting beneath the Mediterranean sun, while pointing toward New Skin, our next series about rebirth and reinvention. This screening will be presented from Studiocanal’s 2023 4K restoration.
